Film may not be dead yet but tape definitely is. High-end HD production is moving at breakneck speed towards a completely tapeless workflow from beginning to end. Faster and bigger drives, cheaper flash memory and the higher bitrates of HD all mean that tapeless is here to stay. No longer can you just pop a DV, HDV or BETA tape into your camera and worry about it later, you have to think about your entire production and way of working differently. We will outline the new working philosophies and practicalities necessary to understand how to plan and run a tapeless production.
