Used to show facial expressions, eye lines and important objects the Close Up is the best way to convey performance and the backbone of western narrative cinema. You simply cannot punctuate your story without it. This class explores how lighting, composition and eye lines are used to create clean, easily absorbed and filmic close ups. We will screen and analyze examples of successful close ups from such films as Sergio Leonie’s “The Good, Bad and the Ugly,” “A Fist Full of Dollars” to the latest block buster, and afterwards light and shoot a series of Close-ups ourselves.
