Watch any movie and you'll find that most successful wide shots are based on a clean expressive graphic composition used to convey action, environment or the spatial relationships between characters in the most clear and concise manner possible. With screen time so precious it's crucial you efficiently and effectively communicate what your audience needs to know to move your story forward. This class will explore how lighting, art direction (architecture) and color are used to create wide shots with the strongest graphic impact. We will screen and analyze examples of successful wide shots in such films as Stanley Kurbic’s “ A Clockwork Orange” and “The Shining” and afterwards light and shoot a series of interior wide shots ourselves.
